Funeral services were held Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Saulters Moore Funeral Chapel in Prentiss, MS for Mr. Charlie Ray Davis, age 77, of Columbia who died January 15, 2009 at his residence. Rev. Joe Davis Jr. and Rev. Buck Rester officiated. Interment followed at Calvary Cemetery. Pall Bearers were Wesley Davis, Tony Rogers, Wade Davis, Bruce Turnage, Jonathan Turnage, Pat Turnage, Anthony Rogers and James Davis. Honorary pall bearers were Thomas Fortenberry, Billy Kirkley, Bruce Jones and Jimbo Barton. Mr. Davis was born in Silver Creek, MS on January 15, 1932 the son of Charlie Estus Davis and Lessie Harrington Davis. He worked for more than 40 years as a body shop repairman. In the 1960’s he was a constable for Beat 2 of Jefferson Davis County. He was a musician and played with String Bean, Jimmy C. Newman, Bill Monroe, Charlie Louvin, The Louisiana Hay Ride and was a regular on the McCaffrey Show Time. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. He was also a Mason. He is survived by a son, Brent Davis of Nunnally, TN; four daughters, Angel Nix of Spring Hill, TN, Robin Wintheisner of Brighton, MI, Joy Moree of Columbia, MS and Kimberly Raynes of Falls Church, VA; six grandchildren; two brothers, Joe Davis and Roy Davis both of Silver Creek, MS; two sisters, Patsy Turnage of Oakvale, MS and Margaret Adams of Silver Creek, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister.
