Doris Loice Cooper went to be with her Lord on January 13 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS, at the age of 85. Funeral arrangements were provided by Saulters Moore Funeral Home, Prentiss, MS. Visitation was held on Saturday, January 16 at 12:30 p.m. at New Hebron Baptist Church, with the service following at 2:30 p.m. Internment following at New Hebron Cemetary. Rev. Jimmie Wood and Rev. Mike Jones officiated. Pallbearers were, Michael Jones, Jay Smith, Jared Smith, Drew Lewis, Charles Jones Jr. “Chip”, Marcus Siler, Joseph Johnson and Zach Jones Doris, the daughter of Shirley Daniel and Mamie Loice Cooper, was born on December 14, 1930 in Byrneville, Florida. She graduated from Century High School and later completed Massey Business College in Jacksonville, Florida. Upon completing her education, Doris went to work for St. Regis Paper Company in Cantonment, FL. There she met Marbury Clegg Cooper and the two were married on August 22, 1951. The couple began their married life in Chicago, IL, and later returned to Pensacola where they welcomed the birth of two daughters, Jane and Jackie. Soon, the family returned to Byrneville, where three more daughters, Joye, Jill and Janet, joined them. In 1967, the family moved to New Hebron, Mississippi. In 1980, Doris and Marbury moved to Monticello, Mississippi, and in 2007 they moved to Madison, Mississippi. Doris was a devoted wife and mother, known for her skills as a great cook and seamstress. After raising their daughters, Doris and Marbury took up square dancing and golf, and enjoyed taking trips and being active. Doris was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, Ridgeland, MS, and was an active member of the God’s Glad Group Sunday School class. Upon her husband’s death, Doris moved to Sunnybrook Estates Retirement Community in Madison, MS where she enjoyed many activities and making new friends. Her parents and her husband of 62 years, as well as her sister, Wynelle Cooper Morgan, preceded her in death. Doris is survived by her 5 daughters: Jane (Mike) Jones of Madison; Jackie Lewis of Ocean Springs; Joye Jones of Tusaloosa, AL; Jill (Tommy) Siler of Ridgeland; and Janet (Rick) Dawson of Hattiesburg. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. The family would like to express a special appreciation to Juanita Moore for providing years of love and service to both Marbury and Doris as their health declined. Doris often stated that Juanita was not a sitter but a dear friend. The family would also like to thank the staff and residents of Sunnybrook Estates for providing a caring environment during the last year of Doris’s life.
