Alice Lee

June 16, 1951 — June 3, 2022

Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Lee will be conducted at 10:00 AM Monday, June 6, 2022, at New Hebron Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Stonewall Cemetery in Simpson county. Reverend Mike Grenn and Reverend Earl Clark will officiate. Mrs. Lee, age 70, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord early Friday morning, June 3, 2022, at the St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. Alice Ann Catt Lee was born in Columbia, MS on June 16, 1951 to Lonnie and Dorothy Beacham Catt. After graduating high school, "Miss Alice" enrolled in the Cosmetology Program at Copiah-Lincoln Community College; after Co-Lin, she then served as a teacher's aid. Next, she enrolled in the University of Southern Mississippi where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. Desiring to reach her full potential as an educator, Miss Alice would go on to earn her Master's Degree from William Carey College. During her career as an educator, she would go beyond state licensure and earn her National Board Certification for Teachers for 2 terms spanning 10 years each term. Miss Alice loved working with children and had a gift for helping children that were challenged learners not only learn to read, but develop a love for reading. Moreover, she also helped many children in the areas of academic achievement, character and leadership by establishing the Beta Club at New Hebron Jr. High School. In addition, Miss Alice was a "coach's wife" for nearly 50 years. From keeping score books and statistics to helping with the coach's lounge, she was the consummate Helpmate to her husband, Bobby. At these games, many happy hours were spent operating the concession stand; serving up tasty treats, including what some would describe as the "best Nachos ever". Some of her students will fondly remember partaking in rolling her yard with toilet paper each Halloween. It wasn't in Miss Alice's nature to become aggravated at the prank; instead, she served the "transgressors" hot chocolate. She was a member of New Hebron Baptist Church. Miss Alice was blessed with the gift of intellectual brilliance, impeccable character and extraordinary determination; but perhaps her greatest God given gift was that of encouragement and mercy. Kind words to the discouraged, a helping hand to the less fortunate and, yes, her own coat given to a cold stranger describes the heart of Alice Lee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Dorothy Catt; 2 sisters Dora Dean Simpton, Linda Lambert and 4 brothers, Hughey Catt, Ray Catt, Johnny Catt and T.D. Catt. Her memory will forever be cherished by her husband of nearly 50 years, Bobby Lee of New Hebron; 2 daughters, Dawn Lee of Hattiesburg and Cassandra Phillips (David) of Brandon; 2 brothers, Paul Catt of Poplarville, Mike Catt of Jayess; 3 sisters, Mary Case of Loyd Star, Amy Wages of Monticello and Ruthie Stewart of Brookhaven. The legacy of their Mamaw Lee will also live on through her grandchildren, whom she loved very much; Charles Brayson Phillips, Jacob Maxim Phillips and Charlotte Ann Phillips. The family will receive friends Sunday evening at New Hebron Baptist Church from 5:30 PM until 8:00 PM and also Monday morning, from 9:00 AM until the hour of service at 10:00 AM.
