Carolyn Thurman

Funeral services for Mrs. Carolyn Thurman will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon, August 17, 2025, at Saulters Moore Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Prentiss. The Reverend Bryan Wilson will officiate, assisted by the Reverend Avery Kitchens. Mrs. Thurman, age 84, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord early Thursday morning at the Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at 3:00 p.m. at Saulters Moore Funeral Home.

Mrs. Thurman will be carried to her final rest by those honored to serve as pallbearers, including Avery Kitchens, Kyle Kitchens, Jesse Mansfield, Tommy Weeks, Ryan Chedotal, and Adam Harrell.

Carolyn was born on December 27, 1940, in Covington County to Daniel Archie and Lillian Alease Minter Hudson. She attended Lone Star High School, where she also played basketball. A resident of Jackson for many years, retirement brought her back to the Prentiss area some 25 years ago.

Throughout her career, she dedicated herself to the service of others, beginning with her work at the Bell South Telephone Company in the late 1960s. In the early 1970s, she chose to return home to raise her children, a decision that spoke volumes about her unwavering commitment to family. After years of nurturing her family, she continued her passion for music and community by working for many years selling ads for Roy Brookshire, a noted gospel music promoter.

Carolyn’s love for southern gospel music was a defining feature of her life. Not only did she cherish the time spent listening to her favorite artists, but she also formed connections with many renowned gospel groups, both regionally and beyond, through her work with Roy Brookshire promoting gospel concerts. Her enthusiasm for gospel music was amplified by her enjoyment of the SonLife Broadcasting Network, where she enjoyed the singing and ministry of Jimmy Swaggart.

In addition to her many talents, she was also a gifted seamstress. She used her skills to create cheerleading outfits for numerous high schools in the Jackson area, as well as formal wear and wedding dresses for many people in her community.

A devoted member of the Southside Assembly of God in Jackson for decades, she was also a media member of the Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband George C. Thurman, Jr.; daughter, Gina Tyrone; step-sons, George Clyde Thurman, III, Christopher Lyle Thurman; great-grandson, Jeremiah Kitchens; 1 grandson; 3 step-grandsons; and her brother, Daniel Laverne Hudson.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her sons, Keith Thurman, Rommie Boyd; daughters, Alisha Burgess, Jamie Hux Moore, Jackie Miller (Mark); stepdaughter, Elisa Acey; (Stan); stepson, Darryl Thurman (Sophia); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
