Charles Ray Jenkins, Sr. was born on August 29, 1952 in Natchez, MS to Claude and Pauline Dyess Jenkins.  A life long resident of Jefferson Davis County, Mr. Jenkins served the citizens of Jefferson Davis County as a deputy sheriff in his younger years. Later on, he also worked as a driller on a land oil rig.  Afterwards, he retired from working for Beat 1, Jefferson Davis County after many years of service.

 Papa Charles’ greatest joy in life came from his family and friends. A devoted grandfather, he adored his grandchildren immensely and made sure to spend as much time with them as possible. Fishing along the waters of the Pearl River and the Ross Barnett Reservoir was a favorite past time and brought him immense happiness, reflecting his love for nature and the outdoors.   A "people person", he gave of his greatest resource-his time to those he loved.  His son and all the pallbearers listed will forever cherish memories of all night fishing trips with "Papa Charles" on the Pearl River.  Mr. Jenkins was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Jenkins is preceded in death by his brothers, Douglas, Dennis, Larry, Robert Dale, Ralph and his sisters, Brenda and Joyce.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 33 years, Joy Ulmer Jenkins, of Prentiss, daughter, Amanda (Daniel) Graves of Prentiss; son, Charles (Jessa) Jenkins, Jr. of Shivers;
2 sisters, Louise Horning of Prentiss and Katherine Temple of Carson.  The legacy of their Papa Charles will also live on through the grandchildren he adored, Landon Graves, Lillian Graves, Jensen Graves, Ashton Graves, Callan Jenkins and Ryland Jenkins.
