Charlotte was born on January 15, 1933 in Kosciusko, Mississippi to Thomas Edward and Luna Mae King Maddox. A graduate of Kosciusko High School, she would go on to further her education at the Mississippi Baptist Hospital, Gilfoy School of Nursing, graduating in 1955. She dedicated her career to the nursing profession, working as a compassionate Registered Nurse until her retirement. Her extraordinary dedication was particularly evident during her many years in the Emergency Room, where she provided care with remarkable devotion and skill.

Charlotte will be remembered as a woman of many talents and passions. An avid quilter, her contributions to her quilting group were truly inspiring. The beautiful quilts she created will serve as treasured keepsakes for her family for generations to come. Reading and crocheting were two hobbies she pursued with joy, often found with a baby blanket draped over her lap, reflecting her gentle and nurturing nature.

Gardening was another passion that defined Charlotte's summers. She loved to work alongside her husband, George, tending to their garden, canning, and preserving the fruits of their labor. The vibrant roses and gladiolas that flourished in her garden brought her immense joy, and her kitchen was always adorned with fresh cut flowers, filling her home with beauty and grace. Charlotte also had a special affinity for feeding the birds that frequented her yard. With feeders never empty, she found great happiness in watching them frolic about, a simple pleasure that enriched her daily life.

An exceptional cook, she delighted in preparing meals for her family during their visits. Her extensive collection of cookbooks was not merely for display; it was a testament to her zest for good meals and creativity. The laughter and conversations shared around her dining table during family gatherings will be cherished memories for all who were blessed to be a part of them.

A longtime member of New Hebron Baptist Church, Charlotte found deep fulfillment in her faith and involvement within her church community. She cherished her role as a Sunday School teacher, especially embracing the bonds formed with the women in her Lydia Ruth class. Her church family held a significant place in her heart, and she lived her life rooted in the values of faith, service, and love. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering faith. Her presence will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched throughout her remarkable journey.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, George Henry Riley, Jr. in 2004.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughters, Susan Riley Landwehr (Greg) of Oxford, GA, Sherry Riley Barhite (Bo) of Kathleen, GA; sister, Rosan Garver, of Pelahatchie; brother, Edward Earl Maddox of Lake; her sisters-in-law, Pat Maddox of Pelahatchie, Nell Riley Myers, of Jackson. The legacy of their Memaw will also live on through her grandchildren, Jason Chicola (Joanna), Daniel Chicola (Autumn), Kristen Neil (Jack), Amy Tabarly (Pierre-Amaury), Neal Barhite (Kristin), Alex Barhite (Judit), Maggie Bennette (Louis), 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 expected great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
