Funeral services for Mr. Charner Layton Little will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at New Hebron Baptist Church with the Reverend Andy Fullington officiating, assisted by the Reverend Mike Grenn. Interment will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday afternoon at the Star Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday morning from 9:00 am until the hour of service at 11:00 am at New Hebron Baptist Church.
Mr. Little will be carried to his final resting place by those honored to serve as pallbearers, including Jerry Little, Craig Little, David Little, Jeff Bass, Joe Little, and Danny Little. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Mike Little, Codie Pierce, Garett Hopper, Steve Lee, Bobby Lee, and the Myron Lee Sunday School Class.
Charles Layton Little was born on May 29, 1938 in Pinola, MS to Samuel Hoyt and Lucy Layton Little in the Railroad Section house his family rented.
He graduated from Pinola High School and pursued further education at Co-Lin Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi. At the age of 12, Charner accepted the Lord, beginning a lifelong journey of faith that would guide him through all his endeavors. He would go onto marry his beloved wife, Frankie, in 1960, whom he met at Co-Lin in 1956. Charner and Frankie faithfully served their Lord in twelve different churches, spanning Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia, throughout their marriage. His final place of service was at New Hebron Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, exemplifying his profound commitment to his faith and community.
Charner’s military service began with the National Guard before he was drafted in August 1958. He served honorably in the United States Army at the Presidio of San Francisco, California, and in Korea. Following his military service, he worked for the State of Louisiana after relocating to New Orleans. The couple then moved to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where Charner worked for the Atomic Energy Commission. Later, he transitioned to a career as a claims adjuster upon moving to Florence, Alabama. His expertise earned him advancement to General Adjuster for catastrophe work, responding to natural disasters including storms, earthquakes, oil spills, forest fires, floods, and defective products across the United States and its territories. This career afforded him the privilege of traveling extensively throughout the contiguous United States, as well as Alaska,, Hawaii, Bermuda, and Canada. After a long and distinguished career, Charner and Frankie retired in 2006, and settled in New Hebron.
Among his proudest accomplishments, Charner became a Free Mason in Sheffield, Alabama in 1963. Demonstrating his adventurous spirit and skill, he earned his single-engine pilot license in 1985. Continuing his commitment to veterans and fellow servicemen, he joined the American Legion in New Hebron in 2007.
Charner’s hobbies were a source of joy and camaraderie. His passion was the restoration of the old 8N Ford Tractor, a labor of love undertaken alongside his friends Roland Walker, Ronnie Glass, Bill Frazier, Ronnie Jones, and Jackie Snoden. Together, they proudly restored 57 old tractors, a testament to his dedication to craftsmanship and friendship.
Charner Layton Little’s life story is one of steadfast faith, unwavering service, and heartfelt friendship. His legacy is carried in the hearts of those who knew him and the communities he served.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Little is preceded in death by his brothers, Sam, Howard, Archie, and Ralph Little.
His memory will forever be cherished by his beloved wife of 65 years, Frankie Little of New Hebron; daughter, Brenda Little of Ruth; and his son, Troy Little (Monica) of Baton Rouge, LA; The legacy of their Pop will also live on through his grandchildren, Lucy Little, Cole Little; his step-grandchildren, Codie Pierce, Garett Hopper; and his great-granddaughter, Raylee Pierce.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the New Hebron Baptist Church building fund.
