Graveside Funeral Services for Mr. Clifton Herring will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, in the Matijevich Family Cemetery. Mr. Herring, age 97, passed away from this life on Friday, January 1, 2021, in Shivers. Pastor Darrell Lovelady will officiate. Saulters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Clifton Hubert Herring was born on April 3, 1923, in New Hebron to Jody Herring and Mary Drummonds Herring. Mr. Herring was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a farmer and a member of the Hattiesburg Church of God. Preceding Mr. Herring in death were his mother and father; his first wife, Alagene White Herring; 1 daughter, Edna Jean Herring; 1 son, Virgil Ray Herring; 2 sisters, Mary Louise Longoria and Edna Mae King; 3 brothers, Alfred Oscar Herring, Eugene Anderson Herring, and Joe Paul Herring; and 1 son-in-law, George Matijevich. Survivors include his wife of 47- and one-half years, Kay Ellen Herring; 1 daughter, Margaret Nell Matijevich of Silver Creek; 2 sons, Phillip Wayne Herring of Prentiss and Richard Dale Herring of Columbia, SC; 1 step-daughter, Ellen Marie Lovelady Little of Pinola; 1 step-son, Darrell E. Lovelady of Manchester, TN; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 6, from 12:30 pm until service time at the graveside.
