Derrick was born on June 13, 1977 in Jackson, Mississippi to William Gregory Horne and Renee Jane Pope Horne.  Derrick's journey in the tile setting industry began immediately after graduating from Jackson Christian Academy.  A gifted artisan, he joined his father's business and he quickly immersed himself in the trade and honed his talents. His attention to detail was unmatched, allowing him to envision works of art within each project he undertook. Over the years, Derrick became renowned for his exceptional craftsmanship and was often assigned challenging projects due to his meticulous approach.

Derrick also had a passion for basketball since his days playing for Jackson Christian Academy. Having a competitive spirit, he loved getting together with friends to play the sport and this comradery built friendships that have lasted a lifetime.  However, it is without reservation that the thing that brought him his greatest joy was spending time with his children, Aubrey and Catherine.

It was Derrick's sense of humor that endeared him to everyone he met. His infectious laughter added warmth to any room he entered, often bringing smiles to the faces of those around him. Whether through a quick-witted remark or a hilarious anecdote, Derrick had an amazing ability to make others laugh. He found joy in lifting people's spirits and bringing happiness into their lives.
Derrick's memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. We remember the impeccable skill with which he transformed spaces into works of beauty, the sound of his laughter echoing through our minds, and the way he touched our lives with his kindness and humor. Derrick's legacy will inspire us to approach our own lives with passion, dedication, and a joyous spirit.

Derrick was preceded in death by his mother, Renee Jane Pope Horne, his maternal grandparents, Betty Ann Pope, G.W. Bounds and Huey and Rachel Magee along with his paternal grandparents, Fred Horne and Bertha Horne.

His memory will forever be cherished by his wife, Jessica McNair Horne; his daughter, Catherine Horne and his son, Aubrey Horne, all of Jackson.  He also leaves behind his parents, Greg and Regina Horne of Terry; his grandfather, Barron Pope of Atlanta, GA and 3 sisters, Hyla Hickman (Rev. Ken) of Collins, Melita Davis (Sam) of Murphreesboro, TN and Rebecca Austin (Dusty) of Terry.
