Dustin "Duck" Runnels, passed away on April 27, 2026, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. He was 44 years of age. Born on April 30, 1981, in Biloxi, Mississippi, Dustin lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and an enduring love for the open road.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

A lifelong resident of New Hebron, Dustin was known affectionately as "Duck" to all who knew him. Known for his cleverness and great wit, his humor and warmth made him a beloved figure among friends and family alike. Always ready with a smile and a helping hand, he was someone you could count on in times of need.

Duck devoted many years to a career as a professional over-the-road (OTR) truck driver, a path he pursued with passion and pride. His work allowed him to travel across more than 30 states, embracing the freedom of the road and the diverse landscapes of the country. His love for the journey and the destinations alike was a source of great joy throughout his life.

Outside of his vocation, Duck loved music and sports, particularly Rock and Roll and his Ole Miss Rebels. He was a member of New Hebron Methodist Church.

Dustin was preceded in death by his parents, Vera and Kenneth Thurman, and his aunt, Marie Magee.

He is survived by his son, Benjamin Runnels; his parents, Raymond and Marsha Runnels; his sister, Rachael Hodges (Dennis), and brother, Timothy Hodges (Desiree), along with his special friend, Tammy Shepard, and his best friend, Joseph Odom. His nephews, Aiden Hodges and Kian Hodges, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews also mourn his loss and celebrate his life.
