Edna Louise Blackmon was born on May 4, 1930, in Portland, Oregon, to Frank Henry and Rosine Katharina Tammen Marquardt and raised on a farm in Sweet Home, Oregon. Edna was initially married to Dan Watson, III, with whom she welcomed two sons. Following the untimely death of Mr. Watson at a young age, Edna faced the challenges of widowhood with resilience. Later, she met and married Billy Ray Blackmon, a sailor whom she met in Long Beach, California. Together, they formed a happy family and returned to Jefferson Davis County in 1958, where Edna became a well-loved figure in the community.
Her family fondly remembers her passion for nature, as she loved raising beautiful flowers in her yard. In her younger years, she found joy in spending time at the swimming pool and was an avid reader, having worked at the Prentiss Library during that time. Edna was also deeply proud of her independence and delighted in retaining her driver's license well into her later years. Dedicated to God and His Word, Mrs. Blackmon was a devoted member of Carson Baptist Church, where she served in many areas, including the nursery in her later years.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Blackmon is preceded in death by her husbands, Dan Watson, III, and Billy Ray Blackmon; her daughter, Karen Blackmon Bridges; her son, Michael Dan Watson; and her siblings, Frank, Erwin, and Lavelle.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her son, Daniel D. Watson, and Edward Ray Blackmon, both of Bassfield, and her niece, Linda Howard, of Torrance, CA. The legacy of their Granny will also live on through her 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
