Florence T. Braneff was born on February 11, 1937 in Gonzales, TX, to William Franklin and Gertrude Mildred Pritchard Tumlinson. Growing up in Gonzales, Texas, Florence was a vibrant young woman who embraced both academic and athletic pursuits with enthusiasm. Her high school years were marked by a passion for sports—she enjoyed playing basketball, tennis, and softball, showing the same determination in the gym as she would later in her spiritual and community work.
Sister Braneff was the consummate pastor’s wife, a role she embraced with grace and steadfast commitment alongside her late husband, Rev. Harold Braneff. Together, they pastored United Pentecostal Churches in Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Texas, shepherding their congregations with deep compassion and strength. Known affectionately as “Mama B” or “Sister B” among the youth, she had a special gift for nurturing the next generation. Her love and dedication shone brightest in her work with young people—whether supervising dorms at youth camps in the Mississippi District UPCI or shaping lives through dramas she authored and produced. These performances were more than just acts; they were heartfelt lessons imprinted on the hearts of many.
Her tenderness extended beyond church walls. Sister Braneff found joy in supporting new mothers, expressing her care through the simple, loving art of crocheting baby blankets—each stitch a symbol of her compassionate spirit. For many years, she also served as an ACE teacher, further reflecting her passion for education and spiritual growth.
Her presence was a gift to every room she entered; her humor and warmth brightened the days of those around her. Her faith was the anchor of her life. She held fast to the Lord, enduring challenges with unwavering strength, ever faithful to the Apostolic Truth of Acts 2:38. Her love for God’s Word was evident not only in her words but in her steadfast walk and tender ministry. Mrs. Braneff was a faithful member of First Pentecostal Church of Jackson.
Mrs. Braneff is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years; and her brother, Byron Tumlinson.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughters, Judye Carol Braneff of Jackson, Rahdona Braneff Ashcraft (Rev. Craig) of Crosby, TX; 2 sisters, Mary McCalip of Benton, AR, Brenda Davis (Rev. Alvin) of Caldwell, ID; and her brothers, Jackie Tumlinson of Gonzales, TX, and Roger Dale Tumlinson of Seadrift, TX; and a host of nieces and nephews. The legacy of their Nana will also live on through her bonus granddaughter, Tiffany Williams (Nate), and bonus great-granddaughter, Alaura Williams.
