Freddie was born on February 24, 1950, in Marion County, Mississippi, to Lonnie and Velma Broom Green. After attending school at Bunker Hill, Freddie enlisted in the United States Army with a deep love for his country, which was evident in every aspect of his service. He was proud to serve as a drill sergeant, guiding young recruits and instilling in them the values he held dear. As a distinguished Green Beret, Freddie completed two tours in Vietnam, where he bravely faced the challenges of war, sustaining injuries during his second tour. His remarkable resilience and commitment to duty extended beyond Vietnam, as he also served at various bases, including Ft. Riley, Kansas, and Ft. Knox, Kentucky. It was at Ft. Knox where his daughter grew up, cherishing precious memories of her life on the base under the watchful eye of her father. His service also took him overseas to Germany and Korea, where he had the important responsibility of providing security for the Olympics.

Freddie's military career culminated in a well-deserved retirement as a Sergeant E8 at Ft. Dix, New Jersey. He was not only a leader in uniform but also a passionate individual outside of his military life. Among his hobbies, he especially enjoyed restoring old cars and fishing. Mr. Green was a member of Gates Road Missionary Baptist Church.

He will be remembered not only for his remarkable achievements in the Army, but he also leaves behind a legacy of service, strength, and devotion to the many lives he touched.

Mr. Green is preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Velma Green.

His memory will forever be cherished by his wife, Janette Green of Bassfield; his daughter, Rhonda Herrington (Brian) of D’Lo; and his sister, Rachel Gail Green of Columbia. The legacy of their Granddaddy will also live on through his grandchildren, Calvin Colin, and Elizabeth Grace,
