Gail Hathorn

Private graveside funeral services for Mrs. Gail C. Hathorn will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at the Bassfield Cemetery. Mrs. Hathorn, was 68 years of age and passed away from this life on Saturday, April 4, 2020 in Jackson. Reverend Randy Gardner will officiate. Saulters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Gail Courtney Hathorn was born on July 1, 1951 in Meridian to Fred Courtney, Sr. and Tressie Sims Courtney. Mrs. Hathorn was a graduate of Bassfield High School. She earned her Associates Degree in Business Administration from Jones County Junior College and her Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from the University of Houston Clear Lake. Gail Hathorn started working for H.B. Zachry, now Zachry Holdings, Inc., on June 13, 1977. Over the next 17 years, Mrs. Hathorn worked her way to becoming the first female Project Manager for Zachry. She continued in that position for the next 14 years, until her retirement in 2010. Mrs. Hathorn’s career with Zachry spanned over 31 years. Mrs. Hathorn was a member of Bunker Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Courtney, Sr. and a sister, Kathy Courtney Kemp. Mrs. Hathorn is survived by her husband of 42 years, Sam S. Hathorn of Bassfield; 1 step-son, Mark Hathorn (Kim) of Baton Rouge, LA; 1 step-daughter, Mechelle Dockall (Bruce) of Houston, TX; her mother, Tressie Courtney of Bassfield; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Fred Courtney, Jr., and John Courtney, both of Bassfield; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in memory of Gail Hathorn to Bunker Hill Baptist Church at 63 Bunker Hill Road, Columbia, MS 39429.
