Gladys Vaunita McPhail was born on May 20, 1944 in Lawrence County, MS, to Joseph W. and Thelma Turnage Yates.  Nita graduated from Monticello High School and soon after, married the love of her life, Don, on February 24, 1963.  Together, they enjoyed 60 years of marriage and would raise a family of 4 children, to which a host of grandchildren and great-great children would be added.  Nita worked for many years as a bookkeeper at several places including Loves Department Store, New Hebron Cable and Piggly Wiggly.  Among her favorite things were listening to gospel music; especially the renowned Gaithers and her Coca-Cola.  A member of the Carson Baptist Church, she was loved by all who knew her and will be missed by many.

In addition to her parents, Nita was also preceded in death by her brother, Willie Ray Yates.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her husband of 60 years, Donald Hollins McPhail of Carson; 3 sons, Greg McPhail (Tabitha) of Prentiss, Kendall McPhail of Prentiss, Scotty McPhail (Pepper) of Monticello; her daughter, Karen Orange (Jack) of Mt. Olive and 2 brothers, Charles Edwin Yates of Pearl and Joseph William Yates of Birmingham, AL.  The legacy of their Mamaw will also live on through her 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
