Funeral services for Mrs. Hulene T. Givens will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at First Pentecostal Church of McComb (FPC United) with interment following in the church cemetery. Pastor Terry Ballard will officiate, assisted by the Reverend Jerome Bourn, and the Reverend Marty Givens. Shirley Hulene Travis Givens, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, and woman of faith, passed away peacefully surrounded by love. With a smile on her face, she took her final breath, and we find comfort in knowing that she had seen the glory of God and was welcomed home to her eternal reward. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss has been entrusted with arrangements.

Mrs. Givens will be carried to her final rest by those honored to serve as pallbearers including Ricky Givens, Allen Travis, Ethan Touchstone, Keith VanDorn, Anthony Boyd, and Brennet Givens. Kye Boyd, Benjamin Givens, and Jaxon Cooper will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 22, beginning at 1:00 PM until the hour of service at 3:00 PM at FPC United. 

Hulene was truly one of a kind. She was known by her family as the world’s best cook, and her kitchen was a place where everyone was welcome. Her door was always open to family, friends, and even those who simply happened to stop by. She never wanted anyone to leave her home hungry. There was always something cooking, something sweet on the counter, and a place at her table. She especially enjoyed sitting with her guests, sipping coffee and sharing a slice of one of her homemade pies or pound cakes. Food was one of the many ways Hulene showed her love.

 If you were blessed to call her a friend, you knew that she loved you hard and loved you wholeheartedly. She never met a stranger and had a way of making everyone feel like family. Above all else, She loved her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her entire world. They were the greatest joy of her life, and she poured her love into each of them. Her home, her family, her kitchen, and the people she loved were where she was happiest. 

Hulene was also deeply devoted to her faith and her church family at FPC United of McComb, where, until her passing, she served as the longest serving member. Her church held a very special place in her heart. She loved her man of God, Pastor Terry Ballard, and First Lady Connie Ballard, and was grateful for the love, guidance, and fellowship they shared with her throughout the years, as well as any previous Pastor that served at her church. 

Her love was generous, unconditional, and unforgettable. She was the kind of person who made a lasting impression simply by being herself. Her smile, her cooking, her hospitality, her faith, and most of all, her love will be deeply missed by all who knew her. 

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, ND Givens; her parents, Tom Travis and Lena Dillon Travis; her brothers, Albert Travis, Elbert Travis, Ottimore Travis, Lattimore Travis, Lynn Travis, and Glen Ray Travis; and her sisters, Eloise Travis, Gladys Travis Barber, and Elizabeth Travis Carlisle. 

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Sheila Keene, and son-in-love, Ronnie Keene; son, Dwayne Givens; daughter, Diane Givens; granddaughter, Megan Givens Van Dorn, and her husband, Keith Van Dorn; grandson, Brennet Givens; granddaughter, Victoria Keene Boyd, and her husband, Anthony Boyd; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Madison Glass and her husband Devin Glass, Katie Van Dorn, Kye Boyd, Benjamin Givens, Jaxon Cooper, Beckham Givens, Charlie Givens and Landon Glass. Although our hearts are broken, we know that you are rejoicing with all of your loved ones. We will make it our goal to see you again. Meet us by the river, and what a family reunion that day will be. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Compassus Hospice, Miss Brenda, Holly, LeeAnn, Mrs. Shannon and Aretha for their care, compassion, and love throughout this process.
