Funeral services for Inita Mitchell will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at First Pentecostal Church of Jackson with interment following in the Natchez Trace Cemetery in Madison. The Reverend Greg Frazier will officiate. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 26, beginning at 11:00 AM until the hour of service at 1:00 PM at First Pentecostal Church.

Inita Mitchell was born on March 23, 1936, in Whitney, Texas, to James Wilburn and Alma Thetus McNeeley Burnett. From an early age, Inita possessed a strong work ethic, a gracious spirit, and a heart devoted to the Lord.

Inita met the love of her life, Billy, at First Pentecostal Church during its infancy at its original location on 1505 Robinson Street and Jackson. The two were married on June 5, 1971, at First United Pentecostal Church of West Monroe, Louisiana. Following their marriage, Inita and Billy returned to Hinds County, where they made their home and shared 55 wonderful years together.

Inita was a remarkably industrious woman. For 29 years, she served as the bookkeeper for the family business, Mitchell Paving. In addition to her work with the family business, she earned her real estate broker's license and worked in real estate.

Known affectionately to many as “Sister Inita,” she loved her Lord deeply and was a faithful and loyal member of First Pentecostal Church in Jackson for many years. She loved and honored her pastors and had a special passion for investing in the lives of young people. Over the years, she taught scores of young people in Sunday School at FPC, Jackson, sharing with them her love for the Lord and helping guide them in His ways. Before moving to the Jackson area, she was also very active in First United Pentecostal Church of West Monroe, Louisiana, where she faithfully worked with young people during her younger years.

Inita will be remembered as a woman of elegance, grace, and class, but also as someone who knew how to enjoy life. She loved hunting and fishing and had a special passion for traveling. She and Billy made countless cherished memories together on vacations to some of their favorite destinations, including Florida and the Ozark and Great Smoky Mountains.

She also had a love for flowers and especially enjoyed photographing their beauty. Through her photographs, travels, work, ministry, and relationships, Inita left behind a collection of memories that will be treasured by all who knew and loved her.

Above all, Inita will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her love for her family, her devotion to the Lord, and the many young lives she touched throughout the years. Her legacy of faith, love, service, and grace will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.

Mrs. Mitchell is preceded in death by her parents, James Wilburn and Alma Thetus Burnett; and her siblings, Rev. Johnnie Ruth Cauhron, James Fred Burnett, Henry Orval Burnett, Alma Hickox, Maurine Burkhalter, and Jeanette Walker.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her husband of 55 years, Billy G. Mitchell of Terry, and a host of nieces and nephews.
