Funeral services for Miss Jackie Fortenberry will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Saulters Moore Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tom Washburn officiating.  Interment will follow in the Hepzibah Cemetery.  Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Visitation for Miss Fortenberry will be Saturday, August 29, 2026 beginning at 10:00 AM until the hour of service 12:00 PM at Saulters Moore Funeral Home.

She will be carried to her final resting place by those honored to serve as pallbearers including William Fortenberry, Lawrence Fortenberry, Danny Lynn Daniels, David Jones, Don Jones, Jeremy Odum, Will McDay and Drake McDay. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be David Fortenberry. 

Miss Jackie Fortenberry, age 78, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord Sunday Morning, August 23, 2026 at her cousin’s home in Silver Creek Mississippi. Jackie Fortenberry was born August 4, 1948, in Jefferson Davis County, to Solon and Marguritte Fortenberry. She was a 1966 graduate of Prentiss High School, and then attended Pearl River Junior College and afterward, continued her education at the University of Mississippi School of Nursing. She began her career at Jeff Davis County Community Hospital and later returned to school to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. Her professional life was marked by dedication, skill, and steady service to others. She taught nursing at UMMC. She began her CRNA career at the University MIssissippi Medical Center. Later her career would take her to Mississippi Baptist Hospital where she would eventually retire after 40 years of service.

Jackie’s work in nursing and nurse anesthesia brought her both the respect of her colleagues and distinction within her profession. She was the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists recipient of the 2007 Daniel D. Vignes Political Director of the Year Award. She also served as president of the Mississippi  Association of Nurse Anesthetists and as secretary treasurer of the Mississippi Association of Nurse Anesthetists even after retiring, reflecting her commitment not only to patient care but also to leadership and advocacy within her field.

Her faith was an important part of her life. Jackie was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi, where she served on many committees and boards. She served in the music department, sang in the church choir, and for many years, volunteered to decorate for the annual Carols by Candlelight Christmas services. In every setting, she gave her time generously and contributed with a spirit of joy and devotion.

Outside of her professional and church life, Jackie loved to travel and was known for the care she gave not only to her immediate family but to her extended family as well. She always had a smile on her face and carried a deep love for her entire family. That warmth, generosity, and constant care shaped the way she moved through the world and will remain a lasting part of her memory.

Jackie Fortenberry will be remembered with gratitude for a life of service, leadership, faith, and love. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched through her work, her church, and her family.

Jackie is preceded in death by her parents, Solon and Marguritte, and her brother Hal Fortenberry.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her many cousins and her friends.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to Batson Hospital for Children at 2500 N. State Street, Jackson, MS. 39216.
