James "Coach" Davis was born on September 19, 1945, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to James Lewis and Pauline Kendrick Davis. His early years were spent living in various places in Louisiana, after which his family settled in Pike County, Mississippi. James's athletic journey began at North Pike High School, where he was an integral member of the Conference Championship football team in 1964. His passion for football led him to Southwest Community College and then to Delta State University, where he further developed his skills both on and off the field. After graduating, James returned to North Pike High School, eager to impart his knowledge and foster the next generation of athletes. He went on to coach at Southwest Christian Academy in Ruth, MS, and concluded his coaching career at Prentiss Christian School, where he formed special bonds with his students and players that would be cherished for years to come. He was a beloved figure in his community, known for his unwavering dedication to his students and players throughout his extensive career in education and coaching.

After his coaching career, James transitioned into the oil field, where he worked as a well tender for Apache Corporation for over a decade. Following this, he dedicated several years to public service with the Town of Prentiss before retiring. However, retirement did not suit him for long, and shortly after stepping away from public work, James took on a role working for the Jefferson Davis County Board of Supervisors, demonstrating his commitment to remaining active and involved in his community.

Outside of his professional life, James was an avid outdoorsman, finding joy in deer and turkey hunting, as well as fishing in the Pearl River. He especially cherished the time spent with his family, who adored him, and to his grandchildren, he was affectionately known as Pop. Mr. Davis was a member of Old Silver Creek Baptist Church.

James Davis leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and love for his family and community. He will be sincerely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is preceded by his parents, James Lewis Davis and Pauline Kendrick Davis.
