Buck was born on March 13, 1950, in Jefferson Davis County to Wilburn and Ruthie Pearl Pierce Dyess. A lifelong resident of Jefferson Davis County, he was a graduate of Prentiss High School, where he drove a bus while attending school and also played football. Buck was a hardworking man all of his life and worked at several jobs including Rudolph's Christmas Tree Farm, Williams Inc. (Crawfish Farm) and Mallard Oil, where he served as a crane operator and driller. Many of the locals will also remember buying watermelons from him. Besides hunting and fishing, one of his great passions in life was go-kart racing. Having been one of the organizers of Green's Creek Speedway, his skill led him to win a championship in Go-Kart racing, which he was very proud of. In addition, Buck will be remembered as a sought after small-engine mechanic. It has been said that he had a knack for listening to an engine and being able to diagnose its trouble right away. "Peanut," as he was known in CB radio land, also enjoyed spending time chatting with his buddies. However, his greatest love and passion was his children and his grandchildren who will cherish his memory for many years to come. Mr. Dyess was a member of Greens Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dyess is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 42 years, Judith "Judy" King Dyess; brothers, W.J. (J Boy) Dyess, George (G Boy) Dyess; and his sisters, Clara Mae Bradford, Ernestine (Teny) Daughdrill, Carrie (Easy Baby) Morris, and Dorris Nell McRaney.

His memory will forever be cherished by his daughters, Jammie Carol Daley, Jennifer Lewis (W.D); son, James "Anthony" Dyess (Chyenne); brother, Marshall "Dock" Dyess; his grandchildren, Samantha Pruitt (Jasen), Aaron Daley, Hikeem Lewis, Gabriel Dyess; and his great-grandchildren, Natalie Pruitt, and Kiara Daley.
