Funeral services for Mr. Jean Larue Cosper will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at the Brandon Baptist Church with the Reverend Kelly Wheat officiating, assisted by the Reverend Huey Dedmon. Mr. Cosper, age 92, entered into the eternal rest of his Lord early Sunday morning, May 24, 2026, at the Merit Health Rankin Medical Center in Brandon. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 27, from 9:30 until the hour of service at 11:00 am at Brandon Baptist Church. Family and friends will meet at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, May 27, at the Prentiss Cemetery, where the United States Navy Honor Guard will present full military honors.
Jean Larue Cosper was born on August 15, 1933, to Herman Earl and Nettie Louis Walters Cosper. Mr. Cosper answered the call of duty by enlisting in the United States Navy, serving his country with honor during the Korean Conflict. His military service exemplified his strong sense of dedication and courage.
He was a proud alumnus of the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned both his Bachelor of Science and a degree in Business Administration.
Professionally, Mr. Cosper made significant contributions in the maritime industry. He devoted many years to the LeBeouf Brothers Towing Company as a personnel manager, where he expertly oversaw the company’s tug boat operators. His expertise extended further as he worked as a boat broker for Hollywood Marine Co., building a reputation for integrity and knowledge in his field.
Beyond his career, Mr. Cosper pursued a wide array of interests that reflected his multifaceted personality. An avid fisherman, he found joy and solace in the peaceful rhythm of the water. His exceptional skill as a marksman spoke to his precision and discipline. A gifted lapidary, he took great pride in crafting exquisite gemstones, sharing his craft through classes on silversmithing—passing on his knowledge to eager learners. Furthermore, his passion for aviation was evident in his ability to pilot land and sea planes, as well as helicopters, showcasing his adventurous spirit and technical skill.
Mr. Cosper's commitment to his community was equally profound. As an active member of the Mississippi Gem and Mineral Society, he engaged with fellow enthusiasts who admired his dedication and talent. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, demonstrated by his devoted membership at Brandon Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Germaine Fay Cosper; his daughter, Donna Cosper; brothers, Jack Dempsey Cosper, James Hector Cosper; sister, Nettie Earl Cosper; son-in-law, Greg York; and 2 step grandchildren, Christopher Kyle Copeland, and Candice Marie Ishee.
His memory will forever be cherished by his wife of 25 years, Elizabeth Toy Cosper of Brandon; daughters, Mary Cosper LeBeouf (David), and Gina Cosper York, both of Houma, LA, Amy Milford of New Orleans; Step-daughters, Elizabeth Carol Martinez (Gerardo) of Gonzales, LA, Martha Idelle Pressley of San Antonio, TX; brother, Joe Allen Cosper of Laurel; sisters, Patty Sue Sykes of Sorento, FL, Ruby Lois Cruciana of Windermere, FL, Brenda Joyce Flater of Mechanicsville, MD; 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; 3 step grandchildren, and 9 step great-grandchildren.
