Jerry Max Magee

Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Max Magee will be conducted at 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 23, 2025, from the chapel of Saulters Moore Funeral Home with Brother Randy Easterling officiating. Interment will follow in the Phalti Cemetery with Brother Billy Bridges officiating. Mr. Magee, age 91, entered into the eternal rest of his Lord Sunday morning, December 21, 2025, at the Jefferson Davis Community Hospital. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 pm until the hour of service at 2:00 pm at Saulters Moore Funeral Home.

Mr. Magee will be carried to his final rest by those honored to serve as pallbearers, including Ivan Colson, Barrett Thompson, Bill Magee, Brandon Dyess, Josh Reid, and John Ashton Polk.

Jerry Max Magee was born on April 26, 1934, in Jefferson Davis County to Rufus Everette and Myrtle Gertrude Wells Magee.

Jerry Max graduated from the Clem School and later enlisted in the United States Army, serving with honor in Alaska during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge from the military, he attended Pearl River Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi.

In 1957, Jerry Max married Bonnie Griffith, the love of his life, and together they welcomed three cherished children into their family. A man of strong work ethic and determination, he began truck farming and raising cattle on his farm in Clem for a short time. Later, he would go to work for Southern Natural Gas Company in St. Bernard Parish. After leaving Southern Natural, he became a foreman and superintendent at Broadfoot Road Construction.

However, it was his passion for farming that truly defined him. Jerry returned to his beloved Clem, dedicating over 50 years to raising cattle, soybeans, and small grains on his farm. His commitment to agriculture did not go unnoticed; he was honored as Farmer of the Year in Jefferson Davis County and had the privilege of serving as the former president of the Jefferson Davis Cattlemen's Association.

Beyond farming, Jerry found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved to hunt and fish, and took pride in raising Bird Dogs. Mr. Magee was a member of Phalti Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and also taught Sunday School.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Magee is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Louise Magee; his son, Terry Magee; and his sister, Barbara Smith.

His memory will forever be cherished by his daughter, Wanda Davis (Ricky) of Clem; son, Jerry Glynn Magee of Bountsville, AL; his grandchildren, Leslee Maddox, Courtney Dyess, T.J. Magee; 8 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
