Jimmy D. Jackson

Funeral services for Mr. Jimmy Jackson will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at the Saulters Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Jackson, age 78, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019 in Hattiesburg.  Reverend Vernon Terrell will officiate and interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Saulters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be James Thompson, Mike Antoniuk, Billy Cavanaugh, Gregory Cavanaugh and Lee Swales. A 1959 graduate of Bassfield High School, Jimmy was a lifelong resident of Bassfield.  He and his high school sweetheart Marcia Sue Cavanaugh Jackson enjoyed 60 years together from their marriage in 1959. In addition to many, many positive moments over the years, Jimmy and Marcia Sue endured the unimaginable loss of two children in seperate automobile accidents in the 1980s, they were strengthened by each other and the confidence of reuniting with them. Jimmy was a hard worker all of his life and was a successful entrepreneur, setting a great example for his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  After years as a construction contractor in the local community and along the Gulf Coast, Jimmy and Marcia Sue founded J&J’s Supermarket on Highway 35 in Bassfield. He poured many years of hard work and love into the business. Now operated by their son, Gary and granddaughter, Megan. J & J’s is a staple in the Bassfield community offering gas, groceries, snacks, beverages and storage units. He was preceded in death by his father, Francis & mother, Merle; his brothers, Glen & Lindsey; son, Bryan & daughter, Tonya. Jimmy is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marcia Sue; his son, Gary (Virginia); grandchildren, Megan, Melanie and Garrett (Bobbi); great grandchildren, DJ, Keaton and Kennedy; brother-in-law’s; sister-in-law’s; nieces and nephews who will miss his pointy wit and sense of humor.
