Funeral services for Mrs. Joyce Sills will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Saulters Moore Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Flavol Rester officiating, assisted by Reverend Andy Fullington. Interment will follow in the New Hebron Cemetery. Mrs. Sills, age 87, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord late Friday evening, August 14, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Silver Creek. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangments.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, August 18, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Saulters Moore Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sills will be carried to her final rest by those honored to serve as pallbearers including Eddie Sills, Tony Reynolds, Colby Williams, Cade Vice, Joey Sills, and Samuel Rester. Marty Herrington, Porky Stephens, Roger Ross, Buckley Magee, Tyler Busby, and Kevin Ross will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Ava Joyce Sills was born on March 1, 1939, in the White Sand Community of Jefferson Davis County, MS to John and Lizzie Smith. A student of of Prentiss High School, Joyce would leave school at the age of 17 to marry Herman Clyde Sills on June 14, 1956. The couple would move to Algiers, LA soon after and one year to the day of their wedding, Clyde and Joyce welcomed their first child, Kathy. Three years later, another daughter, Susan, was born on February 20, 1960. They moved to Silver Creek, MS in 1964, and on July 27, 1969, Clyde and Joyce welcomed their third child, Keith.

Joyce worked for garment plants in both New Hebron and Monticello for many years. At home, she spent her time tending to her flowers, working in her vegetable garden, and being an amazing cook. Anyone who ever came to visit her can confirm that if they left her house hungry or thirsty, it was their own fault because she was going to offer them food and drink. She also stayed active with volunteer work at schools, churches, quilting, etc. and was known in her community for her chicken pies, pound cakes and tea cakes.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, John and Lizzie Smith; her husband, Clyde Sills; her sister, JoAnn Hartzog; her brother, Dan Smith; and her granddaughter, Lisa Burge.

She is survived by her children, Kathy Stephens (Porky) of New Hebron, Susan Ross (Roger) of Van Cleave, and Keith Sills (Kim) of Silver Creek. The legacy of their Nanny will also live on through her grandchildren, Amy Magee (Sambo), Kevin Ross (Cindy), Anya Herrington (Marty), Joey Sills (Lauren), and Anna Sills (Cade); 11 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren, with one on the way.
