He was a hard-working man that worked a variety of jobs over years—from farming as a young man to working on the MS river, from pipelining to driving trucks—but he was best known for the radiator & welding repair business operated for around forty years. He could fix about anything, some way or another. He also had a grist mill that he loved to run. He had customers who came from as far as New Orleans and Gulfport, and he shipped corn mill as far as Chicago, IL.

His most Blessed accomplishment was when he surrendered to his Savior Jesus Christ at Crooked Creek Baptist Church in late summer of 1956. While living in Texarkana Texas, during a men’s prayer meeting on July 4th, 1964, God called him to preach. On the third Sunday of May 1967, he founded Bible Church of Silver Creek MS and served as the pastor for over 56 years. The family had a singing group Buck Rester & the Christian Shepherds that traveled to singings in MS, LA, and AL and hosted a live broadcast every Sunday morning on the radio station WMLC 1270 AM in Monticello MS for 18 years.  He loved to tell everyone he met about his Salvation though Jesus Christ and how Jesus could do the same for them. He had no problem asking anyone, “If you died right now, would you go to heaven or hell?”

He was preceded in death by his wife of twenty-four years Virginia (Ginger) Rester, his father Woodrow “Shorty” Rester, his mother Alpha Mae Stephens Reynolds, his sister Peggy Rester Reynolds, and a bother Merle Rester.

He is survived by his wife of forty-six years Susan Sills Rester, son Flavol Rester (Kathy) of Silver Creek, daughter Maria Rester Shiyou Holden (Norman) of Braxton, son Samuel Rester (Jessica) of Silver Creek, two granddaughters Ginger Turnage and Sarah Rester, four grandsons Kane Shiyou (Sharon), Reuben Rester (Amanda), Jared Rester (Nori), and Gideon Rester, five great-grandchildren, a brother Kelly Rester (Ruth), sister-in-law Bobbie Rester, brother-in-law Billy Reynolds, brother-in-law Don Sills, and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Bible Church of Silver Creek Building Fund or The Gideons International.
