Marvin Emory Swindle was born on September 27, 1930, in Caryville, Florida to Angus McKinnon and Bessie Hasty Swindle. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1948 until 1952 and courageously fought in the Korean War while stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. His time in the military instilled in him values of discipline and perseverance that he carried throughout his life. Following his discharge, he began a career with the St. Regis Paper Company. In 1967, seeking new opportunities, he and his family moved from Cantonment, Florida to Silver Creek, Mississippi, as part of a transfer with the paper company. He enjoyed a long career with the paper mill, retiring as a Foreman with the successor of St. Regis, Georgia Pacific.

He also had a passion for gardening and camping. Marvin cherished the time spent with his family, creating wonderful memories at Lake Bruin in St. Joseph, Louisiana, and at Foscue Creek in Demopolis, Alabama. These experiences not only enriched his own life but also fostered bonds among his loved ones that will endure beyond his passing. Mr. Swindle was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church in Silver Creek.

His granddaughter lovingly offers the following tribute:

To know him was to know a trusted friend and neighbor. He hugged you hard and shook hands even harder. He had the heart of a servant. His word was a promise. He loved his family big and made his friends feel like they belonged in the same circle. His voice trembled every time he went to The Lord in prayer. He was my grandmother's ROCK. He had the patience of Job. His great-grandchildren and grandchildren were the apple of his eye. If he had a bad day, you weren’t going to know it. I would be hard-pressed to find a foe of his. He was well-liked, respected, and admired. Once he was tall & strong, but went to mush over all his girls. Two of my favorite memories will always be he and my grandmother reading their Bible together aloud at night and he teaching me to water ski at Navarre Beach on the bay side. I don’t think they come any better than that! I know he wasn’t perfect, but you’re going to have a really hard time convincing us otherwise.                                                                                                                                                                           I’ll see you again, Papaw.

His memory will forever be cherished by his beloved wife of 73 years, B. Farris Swindle; his daughters, Jill Smith (Joe), Jackie Lemaire (Allen), all of Sumrall, and his sister, Etta Ruth Carter of Pensacola, FL. The legacy of their Papaw will also live on through his grandchildren, Lindsay Willis (Rob), Austin Smith (Emily), Trent Smith (fiancée,  Alanna), and his great-grandchildren, Sophia, Trett, Abilene, Adelyn, and Ezra.

“So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body

we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are

confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be

present with the Lord.”

II Corinthians 5:6-8
