Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. Bates will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at Saulters Moore Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Steve Graves officiating. Interment will follow in the Carson Cemetery. Mrs. Bates entered into the eternal rest of her Lord on Saturday evening, August 8, 2026 at Stone County Hospital in Wiggins Mississippi. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 from 9:30 am until the hour of service at 11:00 am at Saulters Moore Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bates will be carried to her final resting place by those honored to serve as pallbearers including Jeffrey Bates, Martin Bates, Edward Clark, JT Smith, Irvin Dement and Jeremy Hudson.

Mary E. Bates, was born on March 27, 1949, in Greenville, Mississippi, Her journey was marked by an unwavering dedication to her family, her faith, and the countless small joys she found in everyday life.

As a homemaker, Mary devoted herself to raising her family, creating a loving and nurturing environment that became the heart of her home. Her hands were rarely still—whether tending to her loved ones, crafting beautiful works of art, arranging vibrant florals, or finding treasures and sharing stories during her many beloved garage sales. Her creativity found its highest expression not just in her crafts, but in the warmth and beauty she brought to every gathering.

Mary's kitchen was a place of comfort and delight; she was an excellent cook whose chicken and dumplings, cakes, and cookies became treasured favorites among her family. Mealtimes were never just about food, but about community and care, laughter, and memories made.

A woman of deep faith, Mary was a dedicated member of Prentiss Apostolic Church. Her devotion showed in all she did, particularly through her love of reading—her Bible held a special place in her life, offering guidance, strength, and solace through each chapter. In quiet moments, she could often be found immersed in scripture or a favorite book, reflecting not only a love of learning but a gracefully inquisitive spirit.

The impact of Mary's life reaches beyond words: the legacy of love she built in her family and home, her creative gifts, her renowned hospitality, and the steadfast faith that anchored her. Friends and family alike will remember her warmth, generosity, and the joy she brought into every room.

Mary E. Bates will be deeply missed and immensely cherished. Her memory will remain a guiding light to those who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jesse Bates; and her brothers Frank Wayne Middleton and George Middleton.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her sons, Jessie Bates, (Tonya) of McHenry, Jeffrey Bates, (Marla) of Silver Creek and daughter Jennifer Nobles, (Joey) of Ellisville; sisters Grace Dement of Sumrall, Faye Lucas of Prentiss and Wanda Dement of Biloxi. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
