Maxine Hurtt passed away late Wednesday evening, July 23, 2025, at the Merit Health-Wesley Medical Center in Hattiesburg. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Maxine, age 82, was born on June 17, 1943, in Jackson, Mississippi to Max and Lula Dukes Thompson. She attended Byram High School. Maxine had lived in several different areas, but had resided in Jefferson Davis County for the past 15 years. She worked many years as a Nurses Aid at the Mississippi State Hospital-Whitfield and also as a manager of a hotel in Ackerman, Mississippi. Maxine was a faithful member of the Acts Baptist Church in Raleigh, Mississippi, where she also served for many years as the church secretary.

Maxine loved her family immensely and one of her great joys was when everyone gathered for Thanksgiving and Christmas. She prided herself on preparing everyone's favorites, which consisted of chicken and dumplings, mac and cheese, pumpkin pies, pecan pies, and last but not least, her famous cheeseball. Maxine was also a lover of animals and will be missed by her two fur babies, Buddy and Coco.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Max and Lula Thompson and her husband, Richard Hurtt.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughters, Denise Tanner of Carson, Tammy Clark of Louisville; her grandchildren, Chonda Atkins, Kimberly Thibodoux, Scotty Hisaw, Christy Clark, David Clark; 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
