Funeral services for Mike C. Newsom will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Crooked Creek Baptist Church, with interment to follow in the Cliburn Cemetery. Dr. Bill Hudson will officiate. Mr. Newsom, age 90, entered into the eternal rest of his Lord on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at 2: p.m. at Crooked Creek Baptist Church.

Mr. Newsom will be carried to his final resting place by those honored to serve as pallbearers. They include Justin Harrington, Jake Case, Andrew Vincent, Dustin Baker, Zack Gray, Christopher Hudson, and Jacob Rice. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Mike Daughdrill, Devin Hudson, Ethan Hudson, Michael Chasteen, Alex Jordan, and Destin Hudson.

Mike, a life-long member of the North Pleasant Hill Community, was born on November 14, 1934, in New Hebron, MS to Ike and Lela Crawford Newsom.  Mike was a graduate of New Hebron High School.  After serving in the United States Army, Mike enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in road construction, dedicating many years to building highways across Mississippi and Louisiana. His contributions to infrastructure in the region are a testament to his work ethic and commitment to enhancing the lives of those in his community.

 He was an active member of Crooked Creek Baptist Church, where he served diligently as a Sunday School teacher, church greeter, and served on several church committees. His unwavering dedication to his church exemplified his character and the deep convictions he held.

In his leisure time, Mike cherished the simple pleasures of life. He greatly enjoyed drinking coffee with friends and fellow members of Price's Creek Hunting Club, where he affectionately earned the nickname "Dirt Dobber" among his friends. Gardening was another passion of his; he took immense pride in cultivating his garden and generously sharing the fruits of his labor with neighbors.

Mike will be remembered fondly by those fortunate enough to have known him, his contributions to his field, and his spirit of generosity that touched many lives.

He is preceded by his parents, Ike and Lela Crawford Newsom, brothers Lena Newsom, Burnice Newsom, Bobby Newsom, sisters Margaret Newsom, and Effie Lou Newsom.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Mildred Newsom of New Hebron, sons Michael K. Newsom (Jeri Lynn) and Melvin Newsom (Tisha) both of New Hebron, daughter Cindy Smith (Dewayne) of Sontag, bonus children Dr. Bill Hudson (Robbie) of Natchitoches LA, and Cindy Rice (Larry) of Brandon; brother Jimmy Newsom of New Hebron and sister, Ina McDaniel of Senatobia.  Mr. Newsom also leaves behind a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
