Funeral services for Mrs. Patricia A. "Pat" Courtney will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Bassfield Baptist Church with the Reverend Ken Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in the Bassfield Cemetery. Mrs. Courtney, age 87, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord on Wednesday afternoon, July 22, 2026, at the Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 25, from 9:00 am until the hour of service at 11:00 am at Bassfield Baptist Church.

Mrs. Courtney will be carried to her final rest by those honored to serve as pallbearers, including Scott Courtney, Trevor Courtney, William King, Chuck Holland, Jason Wambolt, and Mark Curole. Lewis William King, Bobby Speights, Charles Carr, Henry Rich, and Leon Speights will serve as honorary pallbearers. 

Patricia A. Courtney was born on September 13, 1938, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Landreth and Lexie Windham Taylor. After graduating from high school, she earned a bachelor's degree in nursing, beginning a lifelong career dedicated to caring for others.

Pat met the love of her life while he was stationed in Little Rock serving with the United States Air Force. In 1965, the happy couple made their home in Bassfield, Mississippi, where Pat's lifelong love affair with the community began. She held the well-being of Bassfield and its citizens close to her heart. A true public servant, Pat served several terms as an alderwoman before being elected mayor, always working to improve the town she loved. Her commitment to Bassfield was matched only by her compassionate and nurturing spirit. One of Pat's greatest joys was organizing the Bassfield Sassy Seniors, a vibrant group dedicated to promoting fellowship, friendship, and meaningful activities among the town's senior citizens. She took great pride in bringing people together, creating opportunities for laughter, companionship, and lasting memories.

For many years, Pat served as a registered nurse at Jefferson Davis Community Hospital and the Jefferson Davis Extended Care Facility, where she served as Director of Nursing. She also spent many years in the Home Health Division, providing compassionate care throughout the community while forming countless lifelong friendships. Pat was a community nurse in every sense of the word. Beyond her professional responsibilities, she generously opened her home to neighbors and friends, administering more allergy shots and vitamin B12 injections than she could ever count. Her willingness to help others, no matter the time or circumstance, reflected the servant's heart that defined her life and earned her the love and respect of generations of Bassfield families.

Pat also found great joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved spending time reading, sewing, and smocking, and she took great pride in maintaining a beautiful yard. Her home and garden reflected the same care, creativity, and attention to detail that she poured into every aspect of her life. She was also a devoted member of Bassfield Baptist Church. Over the years, she faithfully served by teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, sharing her love for the Lord with children and helping nurture their faith.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Landreth and Lexie Taylor; her husband, Joe T. Courtney; her brother, Don Taylor (Pat); and an infant brother, Jerry Taylor.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughters, Regina Hebert (Kim) of Brookhaven, Karen Cleveland (Eddie) of Hattiesburg; her son, Greg Courtney (Tara) of Hattiesburg; and her sister, Betty Montgomery (Milo) of Little Rock, AR. The legacy of their Mimi will also live on through her grandchildren, Eric Terry, Elizabeth Chatman, Lauren Courtney, Taylor Cleveland, Austin Courtney, Riley Houston; and 7 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Bassfield Baptist Church.
