Paul "Sonny Boy" Thornhill

Funeral services for Mr. Paul D. "Sonny Boy" Thornhill will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Powells Grove United Pentecostal Church in Jayess with Reverend Elliot Rutland officiating, assisted by Reverend Ronnie Turner and Reverend Caleb Davis.  Interment will follow in the Powells Grove Cemetery, officiated by Reverend Ray Bowling.  Mr. Thornhill, age 90, entered into the eternal rest of his Lord late Sunday night, June 2, 2024, at his home in Jayess.  Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
The Thornhill family will receive friends Tuesday morning, beginning at 9:00 AM until the hour of service at 11:00 AM at Powells Grove United Pentecostal Church.
Mr. Thornhill will be carried to his final rest by Cary Barnett, Scotty Barnett, Christopher Barnett, Freddy Martinez, Decota Garner and Delon Thornhill.
Paul D. Thornhill was born on August 5, 1933 in Lawrence County to Paul Lee and Buena Mae Burnett Thornhill.  Mr. Thornhill, a Korean War veteran, was raised in the Jayess Community and was also a graduate of Jayess School.  After he married his sweetheart, Sara, he was was drafted into the United States Army and the couple moved to San Antonio, Texas, where their baby girl Dianne was born.  After his discharge from the Army, the family moved back to South Mississippi, where Rhonda was born, completing the happy family of four.  Mr. Thornhill worked for many years as a technician for Redd Pest Control where he built a loyal clientale.  Throughout his later years, he owned and operated several different businesses along the Highway 27 neighborhood of Jayess and also worked in the off shore oil industry, as well.  Mr. Thornhill retired as a security guard with the Columbia Training School.  In addition to his strong work ethic, he will long be remembered for his hobby of fishing with his brother along the Pearl River and other favorite spots.  Mr. Thornhill was a member of the Pentecostal faith.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Thornhill is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sara and his brother, Delma.

His memory will forever be cherished by his daughters, Dianne Thornhill Barnett (Lamar) and Rhonda Thornhill Hudson, both of Jayess and his brother, Tommy Ray Thornhill (Sandra) of Jayess. The legacy of their "Big Daddy" will also live on through his grandchildren, Paula Waites, Cary Barnett, Scotty Barnett, Ashley Rousseau, Alandra Bell and his great-grandchildren, Nicole, Christopher, Freddy, Elizabeth, Alex, Decota, Cai, Caleb, Kolton and Kayra.
