Peggy J. Ballard, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to many, departed this life late Saturday evening, October 5, 2024, at the Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Peggy, age 71, was born on July 26, 1953 in Lincoln County, Mississippi. A graduate of Monticello High School, Peggy embarked on a career as a bookkeeper, serving various county governments with diligence and expertise over many years. Her professional integrity and commitment to her work were respected by her colleagues and those she served within the community.

Peggy's family was her  greatest joy and she adored those near her heart. Sunday dinners around her table were laced with warmth and laughter; each dish crafted with care, especially her renowned dressing and beloved pineapple casserole. These meals were more than just sustenance; they were a celebration of life, a ritual where memories were forged and stories were shared. Her home was a sanctuary where generations gathered, their bonds deepening over the joy of good food and heartfelt conversation.

A passionate grandma about her grandchildren, Peggy loved attending cheer competitions and other events. Her family also relates that her grandson, Ethan, treasured the moments spent watching Atlanta Braves Baseball alongside his beloved Grandma, a memory that will forever be etched in his heart.

Peggy is preceded in death by her mother, Bettie Turnage.

She is survived by her daughters, Kari Ballard Lamb (Jason) of Hattiesburg, Pamela Ballard Hudson (Greg) of Lucedale; 2 sisters, Rosie Daughdrill of Silver Creek, Margaret Beasley of Monticello and a brother, Mike Pritchett of Arm. Their Grandma's legacy will also live on through her grandchildren, Haley Whalen, Ethan Taylor and her great-grandson, Brantley Whalen.
