Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, beginning at 1:00 pm until the hour of service at 2:00 pm at Shiloh Baptist Church.

Mrs. Burnett was born in Houston, MS, on April 3, 1956, to Charles Ray and Carolyn Marie Douglas, but her family relocated to their hometown, Sontag, MS, when she was 9. She grew up in that community surrounded by her many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Peggy graduated as the highest achieving student in her 1974 high school class at Monticello High School, earning the title of valedictorian, and then continued her education at Copiah Lincoln Community College, where she earned an associate’s degree in medical laboratory technology.

After two years of working in her chosen specialty at Lawrence County Hospital, Burnett spent several years at home with her young children, Christa and Jennie. During that time as a stay-at-home mom, she began to draw and paint, an enterprise that she continued throughout most of her life. In 1988, she returned to her career at Lawrence County Hospital, where she remained until 2010, when she moved to Dr. Pace’s family clinic to run his laboratory. She retired in 2020.

On September 7, 1996, she married Ronald Burnett. Together they enjoyed road trips to Gatlinburg, TN, crafting, and spending time with their many dogs. He was by her side, caring for her until her final breath.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Ronald, two daughters, Christa Caldwell (Mike) and Jennie Hensarling (Jay), and her grandchildren, Mitchell and Caroline Caldwell, and Andrew, Zachary, and Amelia Kate Hensarling.

The family extends warmest appreciation to the staff at Arden Hospice for their exceptional care during her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church.
