Robert Woodbury Delaware, III, passed away early Friday morning, April 17, 2026, at his home in Bassfield, surrounded by his family. He was 65 years of age. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Rob was born on September 20, 1960 in Houston, Texas to Robert Delware, II, and Carolyn Jean Mayton Delaware. Having grown up in Houston, he played football while in high school.
For many years, Rob served as a seaman. His career later transitioned to the galley, where he worked as a chef on offshore oil rigs. There, Rob ensured that the crews were well fed during their challenging and often isolating shifts at sea. He earned a reputation for his exceptional culinary skills, especially his pizza, cinnamon rolls, and brisket.
After retiring, Rob embraced a slower pace of life, finding joy and fulfillment in his marriage of over 20 years to his beloved wife, Ethel. Together, they shared countless memories, building a life grounded in love and companionship. Rob also devoted himself to caring for his beautiful yard in Bassfield.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his step-daughter, Cindy Daley, and his step-son, Chris “Boogie” Daley.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Delaware of Bassfield; his daughter, Jessica Delaware (Castro) of Jacksonville, FL; step-daughters, Lisa Kaye Sylvest of Bassfield, Diane Hillman (Trent) of Melba, Michelle Daley (Don) of Flowood; step-sons, Roland Daley of Bassfield, Michael Daley (Shelly) of Alabaster, AL; sister, Tia Dyda (Dale) of Ft. Davis, TX; 8 step grandchildren, and 6 step great-grandchildren. Rob also leaves behind his cat that he loved so much, “Baby”.
