Tammy Lynn Carter was born on December 6, 1957 in Prentiss to Kendall Earl and Geneva E. Hamilton Herrington. She grew up in Prentiss and graduated from Prentiss High School.  Afterward, Tammy enrolled in the Jones Junior College, where she earned her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  Her career was dedicated to caring for others.  Tammy spent many years working at the Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Collins, where her compassion and nurturing spirit shone brightly. Her dedication to helping others later extended to her serving at the Bedford Care Nursing Home in Mendenhall. Tammy's selflessness and warmth made a lasting impact on the lives of those under her care.

Beyond her professional life, Tammy was an animal lover, especially dolphins and horses.   Her passion for horses began when her Grandfather Herrington placed her on a horse at a young age. From that moment forward, horses became an integral part of Tammy's life. Her family remarks that she continued this tradition with her grandchildren, sharing the joy of riding horses just as it had been shared with her.

Softball was another one of Tammy's favorite hobbies. She spent many fun filled afternoons at the Grady Saulters Place in the Santee Community, playing alongside her fellow "Buoy Bombers" as they competed against other teams. These moments brought immense happiness to Tammy's life and created lasting memories with friends who became like family.

Tammy Lynn Carter leaves behind cherished memories that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her immense compassion touched countless lives during her time with us. She will be remembered as a devoted nurse, a loving mother, grandmother, sister and a dear friend.

Tammy is preceded in death by her parents, Kendall Herrington and Carey and Geneva Martin.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her children, Miranda (Keith) Applewhite of Sumrall, Tyson Carter of Prentiss; her sisters, Rhonda Gibson of Columbia, Misti Perez of Ridgeland, Phyllis Young of Mount Pleasant, TN; her brothers, Tony Martin of Prentiss, Kenny Herrington of Prentiss and Richard Martin of Katy, TX.  The legacy of their Mawmaw Tammy will also live on through her grandchildren, Kaylie Applewhite, Kara Applewhite, Kami Applewhite, London Carter, Harper Carter and a great-grandson, Fisher Sakata.
