The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon at Saulters Moore Funeral Home, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

A lifelong resident of Carson, Tom served in the US Air Force after graduating from Carson High School, returning home to start a radio & television sales/service business. An electronics wizard and accomplished repairman, Tom built a sales and service store in Carson and Prentiss, eventually becoming a Radio Shack representative for the local area. He also became the head of the Carson Central Water Association, a position he held for over 40 years until declining health forced his retirement in 2022.

Tom was a lifelong member of Carson Baptist Church, serving in various positions from janitor, Sunday School teacher, and deacon. He was affectionately known as the ‘church historian’ as he could readily recall dates, times, and the people involved in local events. His focus on the Lord, church, & family was unshakable.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Clyde V. Nelson, and mother, Pasha Dyess Nelson, who owned & operated Nelson’s General Merchandise in Carson for over 40 years, and a sister, Billie Jean Terrell.

Tom is survived by his wife, Marilyn Morris Nelson, of Mendenhall. Tom and Marilyn had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in April. Also surviving is a son, Walter Anthony Nelson (Kimberly) and daughter, Leisa Michelle Nelson of Pensacola, FL; two granddaughters, Destin Michelle and Tyndal Kyle Nelson of Pensacola, and a great-granddaughter, Victoria Grace Nelson also of Pensacola; a brother-in-law, Roy Terrell, of Houston, TX; three nieces and several great nieces and nephews.
