Funeral services for Mrs. Verna Lee Daughdrill will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Crooked Creek Baptist Church, with interment following in the Crooked Creek Cemetery. Reverend Darel Daniels, assisted by Reverend Ron Jordan. Mrs. Daughdrill, age 71, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord Thursday morning, November 13, 2025, at the Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 1:00 pm until the hour of service at 3:00 pm at Crooked Creek Baptist Church.
Mrs. Daughdrill will be carried to her final rest by those honored to serve as pallbearers, including Ronny Ross, Ryan Ross, Mark Brister, Josh Ard, Albert Fortenberry, Matt Maxie, Jeremy Davis, and Matthew Baker. Honorary pallbearers include Larry Davis, Danny Lee Cliburn, Foster Martin, Billy Ray Jenkins, and James Ray Cliburn.
Verna Lee Daughdrill, a cherished member of the Crooked Creek Community, was born in Jefferson Davis County on November 23, 1953, to Lee and Anna Stephens Ard. Verna graduated from New Hebron High School, where she showcased her talents as an athlete, excelling in basketball and track. She enjoyed a long career, beginning with many years at the New Hebron Manufacturing Company, where she rose to the position of Quality Control Inspector. Following her time there, Verna served at Regions Bank in New Hebron, where her efficiency and professionalism made her a trusted figure among her many customers.
A faithful member of Crooked Creek Baptist Church for many years, Verna was deeply passionate about her faith, particularly in supporting children and youth. She dedicated her time to helping with Bible Drills and Vacation Bible School, imparting her love of the Lord to the younger generation. Her commitment to her community was evident in her generous heart, as she always prioritized the needs of others above her own. Verna spent countless hours reading her Bible, communing with her Lord.
Verna's family was her pride and joy. She married the love of her life in 1972, and together they created a home filled with love and laughter, adding two beloved children to their union, along with many happy memories. Known affectionately as "Grammy" to Kaylee and "Weezie" to Caleb, she was a doting grandmother who found immense joy in every aspect of her grandchildren's lives. Her family will fondly remember her not only for her warmth and nurturing spirit, but also for her incredible culinary skills. Verna was renowned among her loved ones for her exceptional dishes, especially her delicious Macaroni and Cheese and a wide variety of desserts.
Verna Daughdrill touched many lives during her time here, filling hearts with laughter, love, and faith.
Verna is preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Anna Stephens Ard and her sister-in-law, Irma Jean Ross.
Her smile will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind including her husband of 53 years, Michael W. Daughdrill, Sr. of the Crooked Crook Community; her daughter, Miranda Nichols (Randy) of the Crooked Creek Community; her son, Michael W. (Mikey) Daughdrill, Jr. (Amanda) of Prentiss; her brothers, Roland Ross of Brookhaven, and Robert Ard (Liz) of New Hebron. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Kaylee Daughdrill, Caleb Nations, and her great-grandson, Frankie.
