Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Wanda Elaine Johnson will be conducted at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Saulters Moore Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Carey Bass officiating. Interment will follow in the Carson Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson, age 83, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Hattiesburg Health and Rehabilitation Center. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, beginning at 12:00 Noon until the hour of service at 2:00 pm at Saulters Moore Funeral Home.

Wanda will be carried to her final resting place by those honored to serve as pallbearers, including Tristan Pierce, Michael Helton, Colt Howard, Mitchell Bridges, James Bridges, and Ricky Barrett.

Wanda was born on September 21, 1942, in Jefferson Davis County to Donnie and Dora McPhail Greene. A lifelong resident of Carson, Wanda was a graduate of Prentiss High School, where she enjoyed playing basketball.

Wanda dedicated many years to serving her community through her work at the Prentiss High School Cafeteria and Prentiss Cleaners. She later found her passion as a PBX Operator at Forrest General Hospital, where she retired after years of invaluable service. Her commitment to her work was driven by a sincere desire to contribute to the lives of those around her.

Wanda's personal life was rich with memories created alongside her beloved family. Her children hold dear the fond recollections from their youth, recalling their mother as the "Queen of Roller Skating" in her younger years. The family shares countless happy experiences from outings at the skating rink, evenings filled with laughter and fun, surrounded by their mother’s joy and energy.

A woman of faith, Wanda was a dedicated member of Carson Baptist Church, serving her Lord in several capacities, including assistant song director. Her gentle spirit, combined with her unwavering faith, made her a beloved member of her church family. Wanda will be remembered not only for her kindness and generosity but also for the joy she brought into the lives of so many.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Donnie and Dora McPhail Greene; her husband, Boyce Lee Johnson; her brothers, Larry Greene and Hilton Greene; and her sister, Shirley Bridges.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughters, Robin Howard (Buddy) of Soso, Sonja Jones (Stephen), of Prentiss; and her sister, Barbara Bass of Prentiss. The legacy of their Gigi will also live on through her grandchildren, Adriane Helton (Michael), Colt Howard (Ashlee), Carrie Pierce (Tristan), Chrysten Broome; and her great-grandchildren, Vaeda Howard, Carter Howard, Iris Helton, Lily Helton, Rayleigh Pierce, and Langdon Pierce.
