Wesley (Wes) Lowell Leonard

Graveside services for Wesley (Wes) Lowell Leonard will be conducted at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Oakvale Methodist Church Cemetery in Mt. Olive, with the Reverend Ken Roberts officiating. Mr. Leonard, age 61, passed away from a heart attack on Friday, November 7, 2025, at his home in Hattiesburg. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Saulters Moore Funeral Home. Visitation will resume Tuesday morning at 8:00 am, with the funeral procession departing the funeral home at 9:30 am.

Wesley Lowell Leonard was born on November 28, 1963, in Collins, Mississippi, to Glynn (Joe) Lowell and Sue S. Speights Leonard. Wes, as he was known to his family and many friends, grew up in the Mt. Olive community. He graduated from Oak Grove High School and further pursued his education at the University of Southern Mississippi for two years before pursuing a career in health care at Hinds Community College. There, he earned his degree as a Registered Nurse, a field in which he would demonstrate unwavering commitment and skill.

Wes devoted many years to his career at Merit Health-Wesley Medical Center in Hattiesburg, where he was an exceptional asset in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). His brilliant mind and compassionate heart enabled him to excel in critical care, providing comfort and expert care to post-operative patients as they awakened from anesthesia. His co-workers respected his specialized training and his expertise, while physicians regarded his critical thinking as invaluable.

Outside of his professional life, Wes had a profound passion for the beach. He found great joy in spending time at Pensacola Beach and Gulf Shores, where he cherished the peaceful moments spent watching the tide roll in. The serenity of the ocean brought him comfort, but it was his beloved English Sheepdog, Sir Winston Churchill, who filled his life with unconditional love and companionship. Their bond was remarkable, and even after Winston's passing just weeks prior to Wes's departure, the memories they created together are a testament to the joy Wes experienced with his beloved companion.

Wes's legacy is built on his extraordinary career and the genuine connections he fostered throughout his life. He will be remembered not just for his professional accomplishments but for the kindness, warmth, and dedication he brought to every interaction. Wes was a member of the Baptist faith.

He is preceded in death by his father, Glynn (Joe) Lowell Leonard; his step-father, Tolman Morford; his maternal grandparents, Buddy and Norwene Speights, and his paternal grandparents, Jake and Lucy Leonard.

Wes’s memory will forever be cherished by his mother, Sue S. Morford of Hattiesburg; his brother, Lance Leonard of Mt. Olive, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
